Animals have been a passion of mine since childhood. For my second birthday my parents gifted me with my first kitten, Solomon. My love and passion for animals only grew from that moment on. My siblings and I were blessed to have many pets, (dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, bunnies, etc.) in our home over the years. Many of my fondest childhood memories involve a beloved pet. My parents being animal lovers themselves, (my mom particularly fond of collies), started a small in-home breeding program when I was around 12 years old. It was in this season of life when the dream of Purrfect Paws was conceived. The entire experience enthralled me. I knew that one day I too wanted to breed dogs and share this experience with my family, friends, and other animal lovers.

Fast forward to 2003, I marry Brandon and we begin our life together with our 3 cats, Spooky, Milo, and Lilly; one of which, (Lilly) was a wedding gift! Not long after, followed our beloved Sadie, (Border Collie / Spitz mix). She was an amazing addition to the family as she preceded our first born son in 2005. Our little family was blessed to grow and in 2007 we welcomed our second son into the world. It was in this season of life when my life-long dream started to become reality, but in a different way than expected. In 2007 Brandon and I bought our first breeding pair of CFA Himalayans, Huck & Hailey. Knowing I wanted to eventually breed dogs we decided to begin with cats. After all, kittens have been a favorite of mine since I was 2, it only seemed fitting. In 2008 we welcomed our daughter into the family as well as Tink, an adult blue cream Himalayan female who made the dream a reality; She was our very first mama, producing a litter of 3 beautiful kittens. Our adventure with the cats had begun; “Purrfect Place” was born. As Brandon and I were raising our kids, enjoying the country life, (with chickens!), homeschooling, and loving our pets we had the joy of raising beautiful, sweet Himalayans & Persians that were just as much a part of our family. We met many great families over the years and had the pleasure of watching our kittens grow and thrive in their loving furever homes.

In 2017, God called Brandon into full-time ministry. This meant some pretty big changes for our family, including moving from our home and downsizing to a 2 bedroom cottage for an unknown, temporary time. We made the hard decision, after 9 years, to retire from breeding our Persians & Himalayans. Family friends offered to continue breeding and give our adult cats a great and loving home; we happily agreed. It was a hard transition for our family, not only did we say goodbye to our cats, Sadie passed away from heart failure. We found ourselves without any furry friends. However, God was faithful and in less than a year we found a home in rural Roanoke with some land. Our kids could hardly contain their excitement, knowing we were settling back into a home where pets could once again join our family. Shortly after moving into our new home the kids proposed the idea of breeding bunnies. After saving up their money and researching breeds the kids purchased their first Holland Lops. Instead of starting from scratch we decided to let the kids open the Purrfect Place Facebook page, renaming it to Purrfect Paws, to help promote their bunny business. We enjoyed the bunnies for a short season of time and placed the babies in wonderful homes. All of our adult rabbits retired after a few litters.

After settling in to our new home and surroundings I pursued looking into dog breeds; in hopes of starting the life-long dream of breeding dogs. In January of 2019 we purchased our first AKC standard poodle, Pasiley May.

Life began to feel normal again, having furry companions to love on and enjoy. By spring we also added chickens and a kitten named Oscar to the family. And by the end of the summer we purchased an adult CKC mini poodle, Ellie.

In January of 2020 we purchased our male AKC standard poodle, Finnigan Lee.

At the end of January, 2020, Ellie (and her beau, Pierre) had a litter of CKC mini poodle puppies; Purrfect Paws first litter! Little Bear (a.k.a. Hiro) and Blaze were the spunkiest little boys, full of life and love. They went to wonderful families who adore them as much as we do.

In September of 2020 Paisley had her first litter, (with beau Kipp, a handsome AKC Golden Retriever owned by our friends at Bray Pups); 8 healthy, beautiful F1 Goldendoodles flooded our lives. From that litter we kept Penny to add to our breeding program. We are eagerly anticipating her first litter with Finn mid summer of 2022.

In October of 2021 we purchased our gentle giant, Indy, a standard sable tri Bernedoodle.

Over the next several years we had the joy of raising beautiful, healthy, sweet pups.

Penny had her first litter of 12 beautiful F1B Goldendoodles in January 2023, sired by Finn. This litter was our first “themed” litter, “The Sound of Music”!

Indy also welcomed her first litter of 9 sweet F1B Bernedoodle puppies in the spring of 2023, also sired by Finn. We had such fun naming our “Destination” litter.

In December of 2023 we brought home Luigi, our sweet and spunky AKC ‘Moyen’ Poodle male.

As our season of life continued to change, kids growing up and graduating, Brandon and I decided to start breeding smaller puppies. Luigi will weigh right around 30 pounds as an adult and he will sire ‘medium’ sized puppies who average 45 – 50 pounds as adults.
Fast forward to the summer of 2024, we find ourselves moving to Huntington, IN and preparing to send our oldest off to college. It was a whirlwind of a summer!
In October 2024 Luigi sired his first two litters, one with Paisley (a litter of 9 AKC ‘moyen’ poodles) and one with Penny (a litter of 15 ‘moyen’ F1B goldendoodles). He was quite the stud!

In December, Paisley and Finn officially retired from our breeding program. Finn went to live with our friend Carole, while Paisley remains here with us.
We also welcomed a new female, Honey in December of 2024. Honey is an adorable, sweet F1B micromini goldendoodle. She will be around 20 – 25 pounds as an adult.

We are beyond blessed by our furry companions; they each hold a special place in our hearts. Thanks for reading our story. We are excited to see how the chapters of our life continue to unfold.
